Ransomware in 2026: extortion without encryption

Ransomware groups increasingly steal data and threaten to leak it or report the victim to regulators, without encrypting anything. Hospitals and mid-sized businesses remain prime targets.

Ransomware ปี 2026: ไม่เข้ารหัสก็เรียกค่าไถ่ได้ด้วยการขู่เปิดเผยข้อมูล

The clear trend this year is pure data extortion: attackers quietly copy data out, then demand payment under threat of publishing it, selling it or reporting the victim to data protection regulators. Backups alone no longer answer the threat.

Common entry points

  • VPN or remote desktop accounts without MFA
